My work is hand woven and hand dyed. Currently, I am working exclusively with silk yarns: noils and cultivated from India, Japan, and China. I use an American made dobby loom from AVL Looms, which allows me to create long and complex patterns. With computer assistance, my repeating patterns can cover two or three thousand threads. When I upgraded from a 16- to a 24-harness loom several years ago, a whole world of design opened up to me. Many beautiful patterns are based on a unit of 4 or 8 harnesses, so I can design multiple patterns in a single piece. Color and weave patterns have more independence from each other, and curving lines in a network draft are more continuous, less choppy.
